IoT Integrated Management Platform of the Expo Site

The Internet of Things (IoT) Integrated Management Platform built by China Telecom for the Beijing Expo is a SaaS product for the management of the Expo Site based on the company’s open IoT platform. The platform is comprised of six types of IoT applications including air quality monitoring, intelligent firefighting, intelligent sanitation, intelligent lighting, smart electric carts, and intelligent manhole covers, which enables the Expo Site to achieve integrated, visualized management of personnel, resources and the environment and build a people-oriented service mechanism. With the help of this platform, one can monitor all information sent back by remote infrastructure sensors in the Expo Site, directly analyze those data and make decisions. It not only injects life into the Beijing Expo, but also makes it “smarter” and brings fantastic IoT-based experience for visitors.

Infrastructure Monitoring in the Expo Site

China Telecom installed monitoring devices on all infrastructure facilities in the Expo Site, including manhole covers, dustbins, street lamps, electric carts, and smoke sensing and environmental monitoring systems. Relying on the NB-IoT network, a large number of terminal equipment can be online simultaneously. Moreover, it can reduce energy consumption, exempting equipment from the headache of power shortage. The management personnel can monitor the outdoors facilities across the Expo Site without the need to check them in person. The platform can also show the situation of every corner of the Expo Site via an integrated portal. Upon visiting the Beijing Expo, tourists can be assured that an era of “Smart Expo” has arrived.
