The Exhibition Garden of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

05-28/2019

Founded in 1945, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization aims to create conditions for true dialogue among civilizations based on the respect for common values and the dignity of each culture. Through collaboration with other UNESCO departments and with the United Nations system, the UNESCO Representative Office in China is committed to finding and implementing innovative solutions for sustainable development at the social, cultural, environmental and economic levels to help countries achieve their priorities and is a commitment to sustainable development goals and the 2030 Education Agenda.

Through the open space of UNESCO Garden, we will share our experience on how to deal with the relationship between human beings, culture and nature, explore with you the role of cultural and natural diversity on promoting sustainable development, and focus on the important role of World Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve and World Geopark listed by UNESCO.

Our Garden, Created Together

In the UNESCO Garden, visitors will experience an interactive space. At the beginning of the Garden opening, the Garden was decorated with sporadic vegetation, skillfully using plants, fences, stones and other natural objects to outline the seven continents and four oceans of the world. After the opening of the garden, we invite visitors to the Garden every day to sow and plant flowers or plants. Every visitor to the garden can personally manage the Garden and contribute his own strength.

Visitors can continuously observe the whole process from the sowing day to the final formation of the Garden, and can view the changes of the Garden every day. UNESCO International Centre on for Space Technology for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST) will provide technical support throughout the process. UAVs will be used to take a daily photo of the Garden panorama at designated sites, and the photos will be published regularly to share with you on designated websites.

Through this experiential and co-creative process, UNESCO hopes to convey simple but important information to the public:

Let’s take care of our homeland, the Earth and our unique “garden” together.

Everyone should get involved and work together to create a better world and a future of “sustainable development”

To achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and green development, we cannot do without our joint efforts;

Protecting biodiversity and cultural diversity, the world will be more livable and better!

UNESCO Garden--- A Platform for Exchange and Interaction

Visitors will not only have the opportunity to co-create UNESCO Garden, but also learn about projects and initiatives that promote green development and achieve sustainable development goals, as well as relevant partners working closely with UNESCO. During the Expo, UNESCO will also hold various activities, celebrations, performances and exhibitions.

UNESCO will also exhibit stories related to its designated sites, such as the World Natural/Cultural Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve, UNESCO World Geopark and so on. Visitors can learn from these examples about sustainable development.

UNESCO strives to minimize environmental pollution in the Garden. We use a variety of low-carbon solutions, such as the use of bamboo structure to build pavilion, and avoiding the use of non-degradable plastic products in the selection of items such as fences, containers, flower pots, and cups.
