Ticket Media Center“There are pomegranate trees, fishbowl and ceilings, and there are also masters, fat dogs and fat girls.” This is Mr. Lao She’s vivid description of the courtyard house. In the courtyard houses with overlapping stones and sceneries generations of Beijingers have spent a long time planting trees and flowers, feeding birds and fish, enjoying peaches and willows, while the seasons are changing. This is the peaceful and tranquil nest of Beijing people, which places their deep yearning for a better life on it.
The Beijing Garden of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Garden Expo will take the old Beijing’s “courtyard houses” as the core landscape, welcome guests from all over the world, and let the world appreciate the beauty of livable Beijing from small courtyards.
Gazing at the China Pavilion in a distance, the Beijing Garden covers an area of 5350 square meters, and is the largest regional exhibition garden in the Beijing International Horticultural Expo Park. Walking out of the China Pavilion, and turning around the palace wall, you can see the decorated archway of the antique Beijing Garden, in which there is an inscription “Harmony and Agreeableness(He He Ru Yi)”. On both sides of the archway are patches of gables drawn from Beijing’s residential buildings. Along the road, the gables retreat layer by layer, as if you were traversing time and space. Walking along the gable into the “Hutong of Sophora Trees”, the road is made of black bricks, over which there are flourishing Chinese scholar trees. Occasionally, you can find two apricot trees, full of flowers.
When you go further and come to the center of the garden, you can find a courtyard house, which is well-regulated, and looks gentle and simple, with a crabapple and a magnolia planted on both sides of the main house, implying “being evergreen”. When you walk in the courtyard, you can see its doors, beams, arches, bricks, tables and chairs, each of which contains kind of architectural art and is worth a visit.
As you go into the West Chamber, you will find its middle is an open hall, which forms a frame, invites the landscape of the West Garden into the courtyard, and attracts visitors to explore the garden. Walking out of the West Chamber, you will go into a scroll of enjoying moutains and waters, which makes visitors feel as if they were the people in the painting. At the end of the corridor is an open porch called “Rain and Lotuses”, which is an excellent place to enjoying youreselves by talking and drinking. On the south side of the open house, there is also a quiet garden named “Mini Garden”, named after the most beautiful Hutong “Hundreds of Flowers”, which reproduces Beijing people’s leisurely life scene of walking birds, stretching their muscles and bones, and hanging their voices in the morning. When you go up the west side of the waterfront is the “Hill and Flower”, which presents the style of the Rock Garden. When you go up to the top of the stacked stone, you can reach the highest octagonal pavilion in the whole garden. Standing in the pavilion, you can overlook the whole view of Beijing Garden to the East and China Pavilion to the northwest, which is magnificent.
When you go out of the courtyard and come to the roots of the northern imperial city, you can see the “Shijin Flower Square”, a horticultural exhibition area. The gardeners will show their new achievements in horticultural cultivation in Beijing in recent years with their unique floriculture.
In order to highlight Beijing’s host status, the Beijing Garden will launch a campaign of “Courtyard Horticultural Creation Collection”. With the theme of “If I Have a Courtyard”, three winning schemes will be selected for the three seasons of spring, summer and autumn during the Beijing International Horticultural Expo. The winners will be the owners of the courtyards in these three periods respectively. They can dress up the courtyard in accordance with their own schemes and assume the ownership of the courtyard to welcome friends from all over the world.
After visiting the exhibition area of Chinese horticulture, and then looking at the whole Expo Park, you can find that it crosses the Guishui River and blends with the Forest Park, covering an area of ten thousand mu. It integrates with the natural beauty of Haituo Mountain, the second highest peak in Beijing, Wild Duck Lake in the National Wetland Park, Longqing Gorge, the world-class geological relic, the flowers bloom with the seasons changing, forming a beautiful landscaping with the city in a garden, the garden around the city, and the city blending the landscape.
Following the closure of the Beijing International Horticultural Expo, the Beijing Garden will be transformed into a “Beijing Gardening Museum” under the guidance of the concept of “zero emission operation”. It will become a home for horticultural creation that integrates visiting, leisure and experience, and the moral of harmonious coexistence between people and nature will last forever.
