Guangdong Garden: Waterside Dwellings, Pavilions and Corridors Depict Charm of Guangdong

The Guangdong Garden of Beijing Expo 2019 will in herit the essence of Lingnan Garden - using water as itscanvas and painting pavilions, corridors, hills and rockeries to unfold an amazing journey around the exquisite and beautiful province Guangdong.

The Guangdong Garden covers an area of 2,500 square meters. The whole garden is dominated by waterside dwellings, with a front yard and a back yard connecting all the parts of the garden.Alake of limpid water,a garden of blooming flowers.The corridors,bridges, pavilions and halls are all built waterside.Walking in the garden, you will see six major attractions,namely Guangdong Street, Gorgeous Pavilion, Silk Fragrance Tower,Verdant Corridor, Butterfly Hall,Bonsai Garden,Liren Cave and Glass Palace,embedded with scenes such as Guangdong Nostalgia, Guangdong Memory, Moonlit Temple, Water Rhyme of Hometown,Lotus Lake and Flower House in Twilight, showcasing Guangdong's beauty in four seasons - colorful spring, fragrant summer, splendid autumn and verdant winter.

The Guangdong Street is the first scene of the exhibition garden.It stands at the entrance of the garden and opens the curtain for the journey around Guangdong. After entering it, you will see the quaint Gorgeous Pavilion and the exquisite Glass Palace standing opposite to each other,demonstrating the contrast between tradition and modernity.“This contrast is aimed to convey the idea of making full use of the strengths of everything and express the spirit of this landwhich has been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years - openness, compatibility and innovation,”said Ma Yue, the designer of the garden.

The prelude to the exhibition gardenends at the Silk Fragrance Tower which stands opposite to the Guangdong Street.As the main building of the Guangdong Garden,the Silk Fragrance Towernotonly reflects the distinctive features ofthe traditional architecture in the Lingnan area in terms of shape and style,but also exhibits the diversity and charm of Lingnan culture to the visitors. Alake of limpid water behind the Silk Fragrance Tower is the essence of the garden.The lake is partially edged by a path flanked by rockeries, flowers and trees on one sideand the Verdant Corridor, a long and winding corridor, on the other side,with beautiful scenery from every perspective.On the other part of the lake edge,the Butterfly Hall stands next to the water and the hills,facing the Silk Fragrance Tower. Visitors can take the stairs to the top of the rockeries to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the entire garden -white walls, gray roofs, green leaves and red flowers.In addition, there are cascading waters at the foot of the Butterfly Hall. The gurgling water brings the whole garden to life.

In order to letthe Lingnan flowers bloom in the spring of North China, the designed plantspace is the highlight of the Guangdong Garden. The exhibition garden is built in Beijing,so most of the plants in it will be northern plants.In order to create a subtropical landscape with plants that match the image of Lingnan, some flowers, shrubs and pebbles from Lingnan are used in parts of the garden.With different combinations of plants,a variety of themed spaces,such as Spring Flowers and Autumn Fruits,Refreshing Fragrance,Graceful Falling Petals and Colorful Southern Blossoms, are created.
