Guizhou Garden: Mountains, Rivers, Fields, Forestsand Caves Showcase Charm of Guizhou

05-08/2019

The beautiful land of Guizhou is covered by eighty percent of mountains, ten percentof waters and ten percent of fields.Guizhou has the most primitive natural sceneries in China, scattered with karst caves, limpid lakes, verdant forests, lofty mountains, deep canyons and splashing waterfalls. The Guizhou Garden of Beijing Expo 2019 will use the mountains, waters, fields, forests and caves of Guizhou to weave an ecologically beautiful landscape to showcase the charm of colorful Guizhou.

Azaleas are bloomingon the mountains, and their colorful petals flying in the sky.Tea mountainsare green and refreshing. The fruits and vegetables on the mountains are superior resources of traditional Chinese medicine.Taking the above as the concept todesign the arrangement of plants in the Guizhou Garden, the designer make use of the seasonal changes of plants to achieve the effect of“colorful spring, green summer, leaves in autumn, shapes in winter”.The garden boasts a variety of azaleas, such as rhododendron decorum, rhododendron delavayi, rhododendron irroratum, rhododendron liliiflorum, unique Chinese herbs, such as houttuynia, ophiopogon japonicus, reineckia carnea, asarum caudigerum, local teas such as Camellia gymnogyna, Ligustrum robustum, Litsea coreana, and a variety of orchids such as Cymbidium tortisepalum,Cymbidium faberi Rolfe,Paphiopedilum emersonii,Paphiopedilum micranthum,Paphiopedilum barbigerum. Therefore, it can be called a botanical garden ofGuizhou.

The garden can be divided into three areas:the entrance area, the central exhibition area and the ecological demonstration area. The entrance area is featured with relief gray snub-nosed monkeys on the ground. They serve as a preclude, meaning“monkeys welcoming the guests”. On the right of entrance, there are sorghums and liquor jars from which flowers flow out, meaning“aromatic liquor welcoming the guests.”

The design of the central exhibition area is inspired by fields, creating an undulating scenery of the green industries represented by the prickly pear(dubbed“King of Vitamin C”)industry.Asculpture of prickly pearis placed on the top of the mountain. Its interior is used to display the tea culture, demonstrating the perfect integration of functionality and beauty. At the same time, through the cultivation of colorful TCM herbs, avisual art of plants is formed. Decorating the garden with the concepts of pedalled water wheel, scarecrow and fish farming in fields is aimed to show the pristine humanism and simplicity in ancient wisdom. Putting some black-necked cranes on the banks of Lake Caohai makes the scene vivid and alive, showcasing the harmony between man and nature.

Inspired by“forests”, the ecological demonstration area injects the drum tower style into the exhibition hall which uses a large bonsai to shape the spire of the Drum Tower. Together with the semi-stilted buildings of the Miao people, the geological color extracted from the Danxia landform, the vertical greening techniques and cascading waterfalls, a green building of unique ecology is built.Standing on the right of the exhibition hall are the mushroom rocks of the Fanjing Mountains, forming a visual focus. The Drum Square is used as a place of multiple performances to provide visual aesthetics and practical functions in the exhibition garden.
