BCDH Garden: Integration and Coexistence in Folding

05-08/2019

The relationship between human and architectural space and nature has always been concerned by architects. How to solve the relative relationship between the naturalness, compatibility and spatiality of architecture becomes particularly important.

The interior and exterior of the building are relative, and can be extended to be called “open” and “profound”, which is a relative relationship of the depth of field. With the different perspectives, the relative relationship of space will change. In the design, we hope that every perspective is transitional. Architecture and nature overlap with each other, and the interior and exterior are superimposed from the same perspective, forming a unique painting.

In the limited space, we hope that the space of the building should be well compatible and comfortable. We emphasize the characteristics of streamline, size and line of sight through the folding of architectural space, and allow time, space and the outside world to form a dialogue in the same dimension.

For the epitaxial interface, the outer wall is folded, forming a relative relationship between being squeezed and stretched. Folding extrusion will be reflected in the interior of the building volume, forming a relatively independent area in the interior part of each fold line, plus the outside window curtain wall, more like a time segment booth. People look outdoors through the restriction of triangular areas, and the pictures are different. The inside and outside, seeing and being seen, recording and being recorded are all relative. Just as we write history, we are also recorded by history. This is the same as the relationship between architecture and nature, which is symbiotic and interdependent.

For building streamline, we hope it is a continuous and interesting path, which consists of the outdoor, the indoor and the grey space. In the course of marching, natural transition and parallel expansion go with the outside world, the contraction and release of space change with the rhythm of space. The curtain wall on the west side can make the original interior space completely integrated with the outdoor environment, so as to meet people’s needs for various life scenes. On the east side is a landscape wall made of recycled building materials, which reflects on the water surface of the front courtyard with a complete image. It is more like a sculpture, a component with internal display, we want to express a status quo: the theme of architecture and nature. Our observation and exploration are also examined by nature. Everything is relative. People’s activities need carriers, and how to coexist with the natural environment is what we need to remember and think about.

BCDH Garden is to express a “relative” relationship. Under the theme of “relativity”, we hope that people will remember not only a sculpture-like architectural work, but also through the construction of this structure to explore for people, what we need for living and living scenes, and what we need to do.
