Beijing Expo Invites the Media to “Explore Beijing Expo”, the Park Is Broadcast Live Worldwide for the First Time

On August 10, 2018, the Information Office of Beijing Municipal Government, the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, and the Publicity Department of the Yanqing District Party Committee jointly launched the “Explore Beijing Expo” new media live broadcast in Chinese and English to enhance the influence of Beijing Expo at home and abroad.

The live broadcast lasted 100 minutes via Chinese and foreign social media platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, apps, websites, Facebook, and Twitter. The cumulative text views and video views reached 3.5 million in that day in China, and 1.33 million netizens liked the broadcasting. The live broadcast in English covered netizens in nearly 30 countries and regions such as the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, Hungary, Greece, Malaysia, Argentina, Egypt, Morocco, and India, involving 250,000 overseas netizens in the views and interaction that day.

The first stop of the live broadcast event is Yongning Pavilion Observation Platform on Tiantian Mountain – the highest point of the Beijing Expo 2019 Park. Leading by Ye Dahua, the live broadcast gives a panoramic view of the park, showing the China Pavilion which is based on Splendor • Garden Sentiment and Wish • Chinese Dream; the international pavilion that creates the “Beijing Expo” under the green shade; the life experience pavilion that creates that pastoral market; and “Kaleidoscope” plant pavilion that showcases the power and wisdom of plants. Ye Dahua introduced that a view of a park begins with the planning. Beijing Expo 2019 upholds high starting point in planning and high standards in construction under the theme of “Live Green, Live Better” in keeping with the goal of “New Realm of Global Horticulture and New Paradigm of Ecological Civilization”.

At the Yongning Pavilion Observation Platform on Tiantian Mountain, Wu Shijiang further introduced that there will be huge passenger volume – expected to be no less than 16 million visitors – during the opening period from April 29 to October 7. At that time, the special line connecting key scenic areas in Yanqing District to the park will be opened. As the Beijing Expo line is closer to the park, visitors are encouraged to adopt the green travel method.

Deputy Director Ye Dahua and the host introduced the landscape of the park on the way to the foot of the mountain. Subsequently, Dong Hui, director of the Overall Planning Department of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, and Mao Ziqiang, the chief designer of Tiantian Mountain, explained the relevant planning to the media. Dong Hui introduced that Yongning Pavilion symbolizesgood government, harmonious society, and prosperous country. It integrates the architectural style of pavilions during the Tang, Liao and Jin dynasties, and dovetails with the history of Beijing as the capital during the Liao and Jin dynasties. The scholars’ garden adopts the theme of seven plants including plum, orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum, pine, maple and lotus. The gardening techniques are used to express the poems and paintings extolling these plants in an artistic manner, and the traditional garden picture with its unique charms is presented through the combination with mountain and water system.

At the Beijing Expo landscape construction site, the host led the audience to the China Pavilion. Wang Jin, from the engineering department of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau and serving as the construction manager of the China Pavilion, introduced to the media that the China Pavilion intends to inherit the Chinese wisdom in architecture, carry on the spirit of Chinese artisans, show the profound regional culture, and lead green innovation and technology, with consideration to sustainable use. It fully demonstrates an inclusive and self-confident China. The main structure and steel structure have been completed. For the outdoor part, terrace construction and stone cage retaining wall construction are ongoing. For the indoor part, decoration works and roof glass curtain wall construction are in progress.

China Pavilion under construction

As for China Pavilion-China Exhibition Park, the exhibition park has begun to take shape. Up to now, participating units from 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and Hong Kong and Macao are carrying out construction. Lu Feng, the director of the Second Participants Department, focused on introducing the Tongxing Square: “Tongxing Square is composed of the abstract pavement form of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, and the donated landscape stones representing the natural landscape in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Symbolizing solidarity, unity, and joint progress of the Chinese nation, it is an important stage for the Beijing Expo to showcase the vastness and abundant resources of China and the local unique stones.”

The last stop is the International Pavilion. As the core building on the global horticulture axis, the International Pavilion adopts flexible, open, practical and international design ideas, and uses the petal-style architectural style to express the theme. The host led the audience to watch the construction of the international pavilion at close range. Li Jin, the deputy director of the First Participants Department of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, introduced the design concept and construction progress of the international pavilion: the most striking feature of the international pavilion is 94 steel structure umbrellas. Of these, 64 have been installed. At present, the international participation work has been basically completed. 97 countries and international organizations including Russia, the UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea, India, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization have officially confirmed their participation. At the time, the International Pavilion will undertake events such as international high-tech exhibitions and international competitions for the countries, regions, and international organizations.

At the end of the live broadcast, Cui Yong, director of the Publicity and Planning Department of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, sent an invitation to the world. He said that Beijing Expo 2019 is not only an exhibition with the theme of garden and horticulture, but also an exhibition with ideas and vitality. It promotes the concept of harmony between man and nature.

The preparations for Beijing Expo 2019 have entered the home stretch. The media that participated in the event said: “What we see in the park is sensational and beautiful in every aspect.” Beijing Expo 2019 will officially open on April 29 next year. In addition to self-drive vehicle and the subway S2 line, visitors can also take the Beijing Expo bus to the park to experience the Beijing Expo 2019.
