The Overall Planning for the Park of Beijing Expo 2019 and
the Planning for Infrastructure of Its Surrounding Areas Approved

Landscape horticultural axes and world horticultural axes link the north and the south, while the Guihe River ecological leisure belt, horticultural life experience belt, and horticultural technological development belt connect the east and the west. Here, you will find beautiful gardens constructed by 200 participants from around the world......On Dec. 23rd, 2015, a meeting was held by the Organizing Committee of Beijing Expo 2019 and the Overall Planning for the Park of Beijing Expo 2019 and the Planning for Infrastructure of Its Surrounding Areas was approved at the meeting, lifting the veil of secrecy shrouded upon the long-awaited Park of Beijing Expo 2019.
Guihe River Forest Park will be the main body of the Expo Park
With a total area of 960 hectares, the Expo Park is located on the bank of Guihe River in Yanqing County and is divided into three parts: Fenced Area (503 hectares), Unfenced Area (399 hectares) and Horticultural Village (58 hectares).
The Fenced Area will showcase world horticultural culture, horticultural technologies and ecological environment. During exhibition period, the place will be open to the public on the fee basis. Unfenced Area, also green life & green industry experience area, will showcase villages' natural landscape. It will be used as supporting facilities and traffic evacuation site for the Fenced Area; Horticultural Village, a place where participants work and live before and during the exhibition period, will be divided into officespace, residential quarter, hotel, emergency command center, transport hub, etc. It will also serve as command management center and traffic management center during exhibition period.
"Part of the Guihe River Forest Park (424 hectares, including water area of 185 hectares) will be used as exhibition venue." said Mr. Ye Dahua, official from Bureau of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination (the "Expo Coordination Bureau" for short). There are large areas of woodlands (mostly poplar grove) and aquatic plants (mostly reed) along both sides of Guihe River, adding charm to the picturesque Guihe River Forest Park. Moreover, there are also many apricot and peach trees in the surrounding areas and pieces of grasslands on the perimeter of villages.
The planning of the Park of Beijing Expo 2019 follows the principle of "Ecology Priority, Learning from Nature". "The textures of existing mountains, waters, woodlands and farmlands were exploited to enhance the existing ecological system, thus allowing forest system, water system and wetland system coexist in harmony", said Mr. Ye Dahua.
The Expo Park also comprises five villages. Gujiaying Village, located in the Fenced Area, will be upgraded in terms of infrastructure and environment. During exhibition period, this place will serve as Horticultural Village to show China's idyllic countryside. Other villages outside the Fenced Area will also be upgraded in terms of environment and turned into model rural villages where men and nature coexist in harmony.
200 gardens will lead you into a fascinating world of flowers
"Harnessing natural landscape features, the Park will adopt a layout featuring "One Core, Two Axes, Three Belts, Several Zones", i.e. One Core Landscape Area, Two Horticultural Landscape Axles, Three Horticultural Landscape Belts and Several Horticultural Landscape Exhibition Zones". Mr. Ye Dahua said.
Of which, "One Core" refers to One Core Landscape Area, including China Pavilion, Comprehensive Pavilion, Performance Center, Chinese Exhibition Hall and some World Exhibition Halls. "Two Axes" refer to south-north landscape horticultural axes and world horticultural axes with Guanmao Mountain in the south and Haituo Mountain in the north. Exhibition halls along the landscape horticultural axes will be brimmed with oriental charm, illustrating Chinese horticultural art and culture in the past 3,000 years or so."Three Belts" refer to Guihe River Ecological Leisure Belt, Horticultural Life Experience Belt and Horticultural Technological Development Belt.
"Several Zones" include Fusion and Bloom Exhibition Zone (World Horticultural Exhibition Hall), Flourishing Flower Exhibition Zone (Chinese Horticultural Exhibition Hall), A Home for the Soul Exhibition Zone (Ecological Exhibition Hall), Horticultural Life Exhibition Zone (World Horticultural Town + Humanistic Horticultural Exhibition Hall), Education and the Future Exhibition Zone (Horticultural Technological Exhibition Hall + Children Horticultural Exhibition Hall) in the Fenced Area and Flower and Ecological Demonstrative Zone, Agricultural Sightseeing Experience Zone, Green Life Experience Zone, Ecological Wetland Experience Zone, Living Horticultural Exhibition Zone, etc. in the Unfenced Area.
Following cases of past international horticultural exhibitions, buildings of similar scale will be constructed accordingly in the Park of Beijing Expo 2019. The floor area of buildings in Fenced Area reaches 260,000-350,000 square meters, including that of exhibition structures (80,000-120,000 square meters). They include China Pavilion, International Pavilion, Life Experience Pavilion, Plant Pavilion, Performance Center, etc.which will be used to hold indoor horticultural exhibitions, opening and closing ceremonies of international horticultural exhibitions, shows, etc.. With an area of 80,000 square meters, supporting facilities will be equipped with ticketing office, restaurants, toilet, retail outlet, medical care center, etc.
The exhibition is expected to attract no less than 100 official exhibitors (countries and international organizations) and 100 non-official exhibitors (domestic provinces and cities, as well as enterprises home and abroad). The Expo will provide a platform for them to shine and to turn 200 gardens into a fascinating world of flowers.
The Park will be turned into a large ecological park after the exhibition.
"Innovation-oriented and Permanent Use" is a highlight of the comprehensive planning of Beijing Expo 2019.
"Innovation-oriented" is reflected in the application of high-tech elements in the planning of the Park of Beijing Expo 2019. Taking advantage of the capital as a technological innovation center, smart terminal display, robot-human interaction, holographic projection, molecular breeding and other latest technologies were integrated into the planning. In the meantime, in terms of ecological technology, a circulatory, energy-saving ecological water system, and an ecological wetland purification system, etc. were employed to build an ecological sponge park.
Afterthe exhibition, the area will be turned into a large ecological park. Meanwhile, it will also be a nesting zone for horticultural industries in Yanqing.
"After the event, tourism, horticulture, aged care, leisure, vacation industries will be developed in the Park. Backed by unique tourism resources in the surrounding areas, this place and its surrounding areas will become a large ecological park in the region, and will become a new hot tourist destination in northwest of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region." Mr. Ye Dahua said. A Golden Tourism Route involving the Park of Beijing Expo 2019 and Badaling Great Wall, Chongli, Chengde and other famous resorts will be developed.
After the event, the Park will play host to the yearly Beijing Flower Exhibition. The China Pavilion will become the main exhibition hall for such exhibition and will keep functions such as forum, news release, exhibition, etc. The International Pavilion will become China Horticultural Trade Center and will be a platform for research, cultivation and trade of horticultural products. The Plant Pavilion, backed by existing geothermal resources, will become an exhibition greenhouse to attract investment from enterprises and to enrich winter tourism resources in Beijing. The Life Experience Pavilion will be preserved as a horticultural experience center to enhance people's environmental awareness. The Horticultural Town will become a gathering place for designers to create and demonstrate their works. With additional aged-careand vacation functions, it will become a professional and comprehensive place to experience horticultural therapy that appeals to horticulture lovers from different age groups.
The event will also stimulate the development of horticultural industry in Yanqing. With the Park as the heart, Yanqing government will turn the place and its surrounding areas into a nesting place for horticultural industries, which undertakes the duties of horticultural research, production, demonstration, and trade.
